On January 1, 1997, a European regulation concerning the spray-suppression system was applied to newly approved vehicles to ensure the correct installation of spray-suppression truck mud flaps. Moreover, vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes must be properly registered as from January 1, 1999.
